What does six seven (67) mean?

By Lewis C, checked 1 October 2026

Quick answer

It doesn't mean anything. Kids shout six seven and move their hands up and down like scales. It started with Skrilla's song "Doot Doot (6 7)", became Dictionary.com's 2025 word of the year, and 47% of UK kids picked it as their top slang word. It's harmless.

What does six seven mean?

Nothing, and that's the joke. Kids shout "six seven" (written 67) and do a hand gesture: palms up, moving up and down like they're weighing something. If it means anything, it's "so-so" or "maybe this, maybe that". Dictionary.com made 67 its 2025 word of the year and admitted everyone was still working out what it meant.

Where did it come from?

It traces back to the rapper Skrilla's song "Doot Doot (6 7)", then spread through TikTok and YouTube edits until it escaped into every playground going.

How big is it with UK kids?

Massive. Oxford University Press asked almost 5,000 UK children aged 6 to 14 for their words of 2025. The overall winner was "peace", but in the slang category 47% picked six seven, ahead of "aura" and "delulu". Teachers still rank it the most common word in UK classrooms in 2026. If your tea table sounds like a broken calculator, you're in good company.

Is it rude or something to worry about?

No. It's nonsense, and harmless. The only damage is to your patience, and to any maths lesson that involves the number 67.

Is it just a phase?

It's already fading. UK Google searches for "what does 67 mean" peaked in October 2025 and have almost disappeared since. Kids still say it, but parents have stopped needing to look it up. Something new will replace it, and we'll put it on the radar when it does.
